Dave helped me purchase my first home in July of 2014, having previously worked with my parents on purchasing a home in the Holland area. He was great throughout the whole process. The initial home I looked at was listed by a couple who were extremely flakey and difficult, and ended up pulling the listing altogether. The day before the closing, I received the sales agreement that listed almost 3k in additional closing costs including state transfers, closing fee, title insurance transfer and to my surprise a $100 notary fee - just so the notary would come to my house!!! At NO time, did I know of or authorize any of these expenses. I also discovered that his agency had paid the rental agency a "finders fee" that was not disclosed. Of course, I called Dave and he tried to explain these fees as normal which I admit, they very well might be. However, they were not disclosed to me as MY cost. I am a first time home seller so I was naive. <br/><br/>I demanded to talk to the person in charge at the Coldwell Bankers and I got Jack Bouman. At first, Jack tried to say everything was normal. After I said I would not close on the deal unless these fees were waived, he offered to pay $800 towards the fees. I agreed and the closing continued. The only people that would suffer would be the buyers and I did not want that to happen. <br/><br/>The papers were revamped and sent to me by email. I then discovered the finder's fee and the fact that I paid for a title insurance transfer on behalf of the buyer. I discussed the finder's fee to Jack Bouman. When I questioned the ethical nature of an undisclosed finder's fee, he was quick to defend his over 30 plus years in the industry. <br/><br/>I have no problem paying with any of what I described, IF it was disclosed....but the fact is..... it wasn't. <br/><br/>I received far less on the sale than I thought. Looking back, I would have continued to rent the home instead of selling it and receiving far less than I had thought.
